Congratulations to E Squared investee Khula! and founders, Matthew Piper and Karidas Tshintsholo, on your win with the SAB Foundation.
The SAB Foundation Social Innovation & Disability Empowerment Awards is about showing up for South Africans in a meaningful way.
This initiative empowers small hold and emerging farmers by giving them production inputs, market access, and funding. “Khula” means “to grow”, and this app certainly provides the tools and services a farmer needs to guarantee growth.
The tech behind KHULA! (Karidas TshintsholoMatthew Piper) drives the ethical sourcing of produce in an online marketplace, giving farmers direct access to traditional markets, so we are glad as one of their investors, that they continue to be recognised and receive further support for their venture.
Why is this so important to us? Agriculture is a significant contributor to South Africa’s economy but this has been declining steadily since the 60’s due to many challenges in the sector. It is an especially important sector for the creation of livelihoods in rural areas but it can only grow if we invest in agripreneurs that address these challenges and drive growth through technology innovations.
Accenture produced an incredibly interesting report in 2018 – Unlocking Digital Value in South Africa’s Agricultural Sector. It’s worth a read: https://lnkd.in/dYDukjfy
