SE Co-lab partnership successfully places community needs front and centre

The Social Entrepreneurship Co-lab hosted by E Squared earlier in 2021 facilitated a dynamic partnership between Rhiza Babuyile (RB), which develops township communities through holistic community development through healthcare, skills development, enterprise development, and education; MeMeZa, that empowers vulnerable communities with tangible safety technology, linking them with Community Policing Forums, neighbours, family, friends and the South African Police Services (SAPS); and Jonga, an easy-to-install and affordable home alarm system that connects communities in an emergency.

RB managed the complete and timely recruitment process of 12 high calibre security entrepreneurs in Soweto. The call for applications received 10,000 hits on social media and attracted 157 applicants for the role. Psychometric tests were conducted on 70 applicants and ultimately 28 candidates were interviewed due to great insights into skills development by MeMeZa and access to a comprehensive database and network through Jonga. Our hope is that this initiative will continue to grow strategically as incredible value was derived through the partnership of these three value-aligned organisations.
